Report of the Polish Music Council for the Ministry of Culture, the Polish Parliament and the National Broadcasting Council. Issues covered in the Report include:
The post-1989 situation of state musical archives
This project aims to gather and process into a report format the alternative experiences, solutions and proposals concerning certain problems which are of crucial importance to the musical life in Poland.
The archives of the one-time monopolists (the state owned recording company Polskie Nagrania and the state-owned music publishing house Polskie Wydawnictwo Muzyczne) are a valuable legacy documenting the most important achievements of Polish music in the period 1945-1989. At the same time, they are also the basis for radio and television broadcasting activity as well as for the operations of market players, including the two companies themselves. The problem-ridden, incomplete privatisation process of these state-owned enterprises in the past fifteen years is mainly hindered by the lack of good solutions concerning the protection of the archival resources of both institutions to enable them to be competitive market players. This is the second issue that should be comprehensively covered in the Council’s report.
All the most important Polish music organizations and institutions which are members of the Polish Music Council will participate in the production of the report, in cooperation with the competent representatives of European music organizations in Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Bulgaria and Germany.
