Experts Team for Music Education in Schools
The team was appointed by Polish Music Council on 31st May, 2006 to carry out the analysis of the system of teaching music in general education schools in Poland.
The system has been widely criticised mainly due to the fact that it allowed dramatic differences at the level of training persons teaching younger children (aged 6 -1o) and those teaching the older ones. Musical qualifications of people from the first group were inadequate to make children interested in music and to develop their musical abilities, thus resulting in poor effectiveness of their training also in later years.
In the year 1998 the reform of general education system was introduced in Poland. Unfortunately, as a result, not only musical education of younger children did not improve but the education of older ones dramatically deteriorated, consequently leading to serious crisis in teaching music in general type schools. The aims of Experts Team are following: carrying out thorough analysis of teaching music in schools, suggesting better curriculum for both school and after school activities, presenting more effective ways of teachers’ education, and stressing the necessity of cooperation of general schools with music schools as well as with the culture centres promoting music. |
